The Italian defence minister has instructed the Italian Navy to plan the safe transit of Italian ships through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait without waiting for assessments from the EU's Aspides mission. The number and deployment of naval units will be subject to Government and Parliamentary approval. An Italian Eurofighter has been hit at Ta'if in Saudi Arabia.
